and in your soul they poked a million holes
But you never let em show, come on it's time to go...
Genesis Rhapsodos, Angeal's childhood friend. The two grew up together in Banora Village, Genesis the son of the wealthy mayor, and Angeal not as well off, but the two became close friend regardless. Angeal respects and cares for his friend, and this has been a withstanding feeling. In his youth, Angeal always wanted a taste of the Banora apples that grew on he tree in he Mayor's yard, but refused to steal from his friend.
never meant to belong...
Feeling out of place all his life, Genesis set his goals on becoming a SOLDIER, and not just any SOLDIER, Class 1st and so good at the profession that he would catch the legendary Sephiroth's eye. He wanted the respect and belonging that he never felt growing up. As a kid, his dream was to drink White Banora juice with Sephiroth. Though later is seems like Genesis main desire is to best Sephiroth, I think it's more of a hero envy-- deep down he wants the man he's admired so long to acknowledge him, maybe even see him as an equal. It's because of this envy, that Genesis sometimes goes overkill in his attacks, and it is Angeal who breaks the three friends up when what began as playful sparring culminated in what seemed like Genesis trying to kill Sephiroth. When he is wounded during this fight, Sephiroth offers his blood to heal his friend but only Angeal's blood can help, and there's a good reason why.
if the world threatens my life, then I shall take the world down with me
Technically, Angeal and Genesis would be something like half brothers, I'm thinking. Why? Because DNA from Gillian was injected to Genesis as a fetus. Unlike Angeal, Genesis' single wing is black, and using his powers furthers Genesis' deteriorate; to Hollander, Genesis was a failed experiment and brushed aside and given to the Mayor and his wife. The injury Genesis sustains during the sparring session, though superficial, was enough to kick start his deterioration. Angry not only at what he was, but the fact his whole life, he's been deemed a failure, Genesis wants vengeance, and manages to talk his best friend Angeal, into dissenting with him. Angeal, equally disturbed by what he is, feels that he is a monster and not a human, and no longer has the right to dreams and prides and such ideas afforded to human beings. Though it takes a while, Angeal sees the wrong in what Genesis is doing, but he also sees the wrong in what Shinra has done and continues to do. With that he decides the course of action is to fight "All who bring suffering to the Planet".
a tale of three friend - a dream fulfilled
Genesis is obsessed with an unfinished play entitled Loveless. the play centers around three friends who all seek the Gift of the Goddess. One of the friends becomes a prisoner of war, one flies away, and the remaining becomes the hero, that heals the world. Genesis wonders, between he, Angeal, and Sephiroth, who will be the hero. Of course he wants the title himself. After being defeated by Zack, he sees the Jenova that has been infused with Zack (due to Hojo's experimentation), and who he thinks is his childhood friend Angeal (actually the SOLDIER Director, Lezard, after injecting himself with G Cells). Zack gives them all a Banora apple and commands they eat together. To Genesis, he has both his friends back and his dream of eating an Apple with Sephiroth have been fulfilled.
