Anti-Shinra. Unable to gain Sephiroth's legendary status, and realizing he was a part of Project G--deemed a failure in that as well-- Genesis wants vengeance as well as a cure for his deterioration. He leaves Shinra, taking most of the Class 2nd and 3rd SOLDIERS with him. These soldiers become Genesis copies. He also secretly works with Lezard to take Shinra down. He attempts to sway his childhood friend,Angeal, to his side- to no avail, though Angeal does desert Shinra with him. Genesis realizes that he needs S-cells, from Project Sephiroth, to survive. He asks Sephiroth for his help, but Sephiroth not only refuses him, but tells him to Go rot. Kinda harsh, no?. Genesis' information into Sephiroth's past is what lead Sephiroth to read Gast's files in the basement of the Shinra Mansion, and subsequently go mad. After the Nibelheim events, Genesis encounters Zack in Gongaga and ask for his S-cells. However, when a copy eats Zack's hair they return to the LifeStream. Zack was a 'failed' specimen of the experiments Hojo conducted on he and Cloud during that 4 year period. Cloud, however, successfully took in the S-cells.

Final Battle with Zack. Zack faces Genesis, for the final time, in the underground ruins of Banora Village. By this time, Genesis' has greatly deteriorated. What Genesis wants now is recreation of Loveless. Genesis gathers energy from the Goddess Materia and transforms into Genesis Avatar. Genesis loses, and transform back into himself-- but all traces of deterioration are gone. Zack returns to the area under the apple tree where Cloud is still catatonic and the deteriorating, near dead, Angeal copy that is Lezard awaits. Zack sits Genesis down and gives everyone a Banora apple to eat together, at which point Genesis awakes and asks is it sweet?. Genesis' dream was to eat an apple with Sephiroth; considering Zack has S-cells within him, he accepts Zack in Sephiroth's place as the "hero". His dream has been fulfilled. Shortly after, Zack takes Cloud and leaves. Unknown SOLDIER, later revealed as Nero and Weiss in Dirge of Cerberus, take the fainted Genesis away in a helicopter.

Battle Line is Drawn. Genesis was a SOLDIER: Class 1st, along with Zack's mentor Angeal, and Sephiroth, the Legendary SOLDIER that had Zack, at one point, star-struck. Genesis is Angeal's childhood friend. Although he takes on the antagonist role in much of Crisis Core, Zack certainly doesn't hate Genesis. Sure as hell does not understand Genesis (as I'm sure most don't with Genesis constantly spouting on about a Gift of the Goddess), but Zack doesn't hate him. While he doesn't know Genesis well enough to say Genesis would never betray me! as he does regarding Angeal, I think it's because of the nature of Genesis and Angeal's relationship, that Zack doesn't mark him down as foe and leave it at that. Deeper into Crisis Core, once Zack understands Project G, and the more sinister side of Shinra, he softens towards Genesis. As aforementioned, after his boss fight with Genesis Avatar, he helps Genesis out into the open, and gives a Banora Apple to Genesis as well. As he leaves Zack, he bids Genesis to live. After all, Genesis is Zack's final flesh and blood link to Angeal; the final Angeal Griffin clone has died, Lezard as a Genesis Clone has died.

Loveless. Genesis takes special interest in an unfinished play, entitled Loveless. In Loveless, there are three men, who's fate will lead them in three different directions: one is destined to become a hero, the other towander the Earth, and the third will be taken prisoner. All three men, are bound together in their desire to seek an answer: the Gift of the Goddess. It was Genesis' desire to be the hero spoken of in the play, who is destined to heal the world.
