Mr. Information. Kunsel's purpose in the game seems to be teaching the player the ropes (his name doesn't sound similar to 'council' for no reason, yah?). He sends messages with import updates news, or ust to see what's up; he teaches you about the side missions. He's usually in hanging out in lobby or recommending some site in Midgar for Zack to see, like Loveless.

The Real Best Friend.I wondered why he was added to the story at all. It bothered me that the assumption is Cloud and Zack were the best friends-- they barely knew each other. Kunsel on the other hand is a SOLDIER: Class 2^nd and has been close friends with Zack for a long time. This is proven when Zack is deemed a traitor after the Nibelheim incident. When news of two escaped lab specimens reached Kunsel, he immediately sends Zack an email. He doesn't stop and wonder Could this be Zack?, he knows it's his friend. He asks Zack to Just hurry up and get back to Midgar safely and says that he will leave Shinra if he has to in order to help Zack. I find it extremely sad Kunsel may not know that his friend died in the end, though I'm sure news gets around in Shinra, being that whomever is able to bring Zack down would be promoted to SOLDIER: Class 1^st. Even worse, we know nothing more of Kunsel. Poor Kunsel...
